The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world has truly turned American’s businesses upside down. Shutting down normal operations in order to slow the spread of Coronavirus has caused a national emergency. The development of COVID-19 has led the American Dental Association (ADA) to issue a recommendation that all dental practices nationwide reduce their practice operations to procedures that the ADA categorizes as either “emergency” or “essential.” As a result of these guidelines, you will need to call ahead to our practice to ensure that a dentist can see you. **Please be advised: If you have a fever, cough, or any other symptoms of illness, or if you have been in contact with someone who has been exposed to the Coronavirus, we will ask you to reschedule your appointment to avoid exposure to our staff and other patients.
With limited access to regular dental appointments, NOW is the time for proper oral hygiene practices at home. Follow these 3 simple steps for healthy teeth and gums:
- Floss your teeth every day. While it is often the most overlooked part of oral hygiene, flossing is the most critical part. Dental floss is the only tool with the ability to scrape damage plaque away from the teeth and between the teeth. On average, it takes only 90 seconds to floss. Make sure you make the time!
- Brush regularly throughout the day. While it is often suggested that you brush your teeth twice a day, you are free to brush more frequently. If you have had to cancel a dental appointment due to COVID-19, brushing after every meal is advised.
- Make healthy dietary choices. What you eat and drink affects your entire body – including your oral health. Limiting sugar, soft drinks, and alcohol will help prevent cavities and decay.
At Peninsula Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we are here with you throughout the Coronavirus pandemic and in the future. As partners with you in your oral health, we encourage you to do your part to support healthy teeth and gums.
